Uterine / Fibroid Artery Embolisation (UAE/UFE) is a minimally invasive method for the treatment of fibroids.
This involves angiography of the uterus to study the blood supply to the uterus and the fibroids. Then medicine (small embolic particles) are injected through the catheter to reach specifically to the uterus only.
This results in blockage of the those blood vessels which were supplying nutrients and oxygen to the fibroids. As a result of deprivation of nutrients and oxygen the fibroids shrink in size and are absorbed by the body.
